The High Bridge Soap Box Derby is an annual event, founded in 2008, where kids ages 8-14 race down Main Street in cars built by and/or for them. Cars are not provided; parents/guardians must provide the car for the child to race in.

The race is open to kids ages 8-14. All are welcome, whether or not you’re from High Bridge.

RACE RULES & CAR REQUIREMENTS

DERBY CAR
Cars must have:
✔ 4 wheels
✔ Driver/Car combination weight cannot exceed 220lbs
✔ Foot-braking mechanism
✔ Steering mechanism
✔ Must be able to fit on a 4’x8’ platform (Starting Gate)
✔ Should have 3” minimum clearance underneath to be able to get off platform

THE TOURNAMENT
🔹 This is a double-elimination tournament, meaning a driver is eliminated once they have lost 2 races.
🔹 The races will be held RAIN OR SHINE.
🔹 The races are head to head. First driver to cross the finish line wins each race.
🔹 Drivers must have both hands on steering mechanism until the car comes to a
complete stop. Removing either hand from steering while car is moving will ELIMINATE racer from the day’s activities.
🔹 If a driver touches the yellow center line, s/he loses that race. If both drivers
touch the center line, the first driver to touch the line loses the race.
🔹 The finish line judges can use any method they wish (pictures, etc.) to
determine the races. Their decisions ARE FINAL.
